吴光宇(1908-1970)，原籍浙江绍兴，生于北京。1924年毕业于北京汇文中学。早年受伯父吴镜汀影响，习山水画。后转攻人物画，师从徐燕孙。1926年参加中国画学研究会，为助教。后任教于京华美术学院、北平艺术专科学校。1957年聘为北京画院画师。六十年代，曾于河北美术学院、鲁迅美术学院、西安美术学院授课。中国美术家协会会员。擅长工笔人物画。兴趣广泛，爱好京剧和民间戏曲。艺术上慕唐宋画风，又受民间壁画及民间戏曲艺术影响。长于历史人物画。1962年曾赴云南西双版纳写生，绘人物肖像和云南风光多幅。
