Stem bowls of this type were first made in the Ming dynasty, see for example a Yongle bowl decorated on the interior with a dragon in anhua, illustrated in Monochrome Ceramics of Ming and Ch'ing Dynasties, Hong Kong, 1976, cat. no. 1.
