Solid bronze statue. One of several feet belonging to a large vessel. The lion with erect upright legs, the outsides of which are fully sculptured. The inner surfaces straight and smooth. Notches on the ends of the feet indicating the claws. The face exaggeratedly stylised, with protruding outlined eyes and eyebrows like spectacles. The closely flowing mane represented by wide grooves in the surface, the hair falling in well-arranged gro of locks. The triangular-shaped ears denoted within the mane, likewise not fully sculptured. A broad indentation on the lion's back, with two precisely right-angled recesses at the side to amodate a custom-fit lug on the base of the supported vessel. Provenance: Private Austrian collection, acquired from the stock of an Austrian art dealer during the 1990s.
