A SKETCH OF ROCKS AFTER HUANG GONGWANG BY YEQING China, first half of the 20th century. Ink on paper. The fan-shaped painting depicts a composition of smaller rocks in various shades. Calligraphy and two seal marks on the left.Inscriptions: The text describes the sketch. Following Huang Gongwang's art style. Painted by Yeqing. Seal 'Daye' and 'Yeqing'.Huang Gongwang (1269-1354), also known as one of the four masters of the Yuan dynasty, was a Chinese painter, poet, and writer. He served as a secretary in the metropolitan censorate. Huang Zijiu is regarded as one of the great literari painters, as his painting technique had a profound effect on landscapists of later centuries.Provenance: From the collection of Professor Jan Wirgin (1932-2020). Jan Wirgin studied Classic Chinese and History of Art at Stockholm University. Later, he joined the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm, first as a curator and then between 1981-1998 as the director of the museum. Further, he published numerous articles during his work as the editor of the Bulletin of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities. One of his most famous works is the book "Chinese Art history" (1972), which is still one of the most read books for students of Chinese art history in Sweden.Condition: Very good condition.
