A SANGGAM SLIP-INLAID CELADON GLAZED CERAMIC DISH, JOSEON DYNASTYKorea, Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), 17th century or earlier. The conical sides rising from a slightly recessed foot, the interior and exterior decorated in black and white sanggam slip-inlay with chrysanthemum roundels, the cavetto with a single chrysanthemum blossom surrounded by a band of yeoui (ruyi) heads, covered overall in a grayish celadon glaze.The art of sanggam involves etching desired patterns onto dry clay and filling the carved spaces with black and/or white slip. After that, a translucent glaze is applied, and the vessel is fired. Condition: With some old wear and manufacturing flaws, the mouth rim with a hairline and an associated repaired chip. Overall presenting well.
