It is made of high-quality white jade, which is white and delicate, shiny and smooth, with a dark brown color. The head, wings, and abdomen are carved with thick Yin lines, and the wings on the back are symmetrical, like lung lobes. Although there are only a few strokes, it is rough and powerful, and the sharpness of the sword makes people feel happy and dripping, and it has the charm of "Han Eight Swords". The ancients highly admired cicadas, thinking they were noble and elegant, and liked to use jade cicadas as decorations. And because cicadas can live in the soil and emerge as feathers, the Han Dynasty often put jade cicadas in the mouths of the dead, hoping that the dead would be as immortal as the cicadas, degenerate and regenerate. 採用上等白玉製成，玉質潔白細膩，瑩潤光潔，帶有黑褐色沁色，頭、翼、腹用粗陰線刻劃，背部雙翼左右對稱，如肺葉狀。雖是寥寥數筆，但粗獷有力、刀刀見鋒，讓人有一種痛快淋漓之感，極具“漢八刀”風韻。古人對蟬十分推崇，認為其高潔清雅，喜用玉蟬佩掛作為裝飾。又因為蟬能入土生活，出土羽化，漢代經常將玉蟬放於死者口中，期望逝者能夠像蟬一樣精神不死，蛻化再生。
