George Wright,  British 1860-1942- Head of a chestnut horse; oil on canvas, signed and dated 'G. Wright / 80' (lower centre), 35.8 x 45.8 cm. Provenance:  Private Collection. Note: Wright specialised in sporting and hunting scenes. He was one of a family of seven children, five of whom were professional artists. The present work is slightly different from the full-body portraits more often produced by the artist. By focusing more closely on the horse's face, and rather than solely describing its musculature and form, he effectively imparts a charming sense of its character.
