A BRONZE ‘HILL’ CENSER AND COVER, BOSHANLU, HAN DYNASTY
China, 206 BC-220 AD. Raised on a stem foot with an openwork foliate motif against a cross-hatched ground. The conical cover is cast in openwork as a mountain range. The bronze covered overall with a rich and naturally grown patina with malachite and cuprite encrustations.


Provenance:
From a private collection in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

Condition:
Good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive wear, traces of use to the interior, signs of weathering and erosion with associated few losses, encrustations, minor nicks, light scratches.

The cover of this hill censer
depicts the mystical overlapping peaks of Mount Peng, regarded in Han dynasty Daoist tradition as a paradise realm for the spirits of immortals.

漢代銅博山爐

中國，西元前206年至西元220年。器呈豆形，蓋是鏤空的起伏山巒，有雲氣紋填充於山巒之間。銅爐整體覆蓋著自然包漿，上面有著綠色和紅色結殼。
