此件笔筒精铜为材，规格适中，造型规整端庄，呈圆筒形。唇口，筒身以镂雕技法饰缠枝莲纹，枝叶舒卷柔韧，不见首尾，其上莲花盛放，莲瓣层层迭迭，中央莲蓬刻画细致，毫无偷工。笔筒平底，下承三足，踞地沉稳。
笔筒乃文房用具中不可或缺之物，明代文人朱彝尊曾作《笔筒铭》，云：“笔之在案，或侧或颇，犹人之无仪，筒以束之，如客得家，闲彼放心，归于无邪。”然而常见的笔筒，以竹、木、瓷、玉为多，本品以铜为材制作，极为鲜见。
