释文：世味淡忘素怀静，旧书细读余蕴绕。
款识：光绪戊子腊日呵冻应政伯太史年世兄清属，无不悔翁阎敬铭京寓书，年七十二。
钤印：朝邑阎氏敬铭、修治园主人
说明：西安文物店库出。

阎敬铭，字丹初，陕西朝邑赵渡镇人，晚清大臣。道光二十五年（1845），28岁考中进士，选翰林院庶吉士。历任湖北按察使、军机大臣、总理衙门行走、晋协办大学士、东阁大学士等。精于理财，政绩卓著，65岁升任户部尚书，掌管国家财政，有“救时宰相”之称。光绪十八年（1892），卒于山西寄寓，追赠太子少保，谥“文介”。
