此件长方盒形制硕大，平顶直壁，盒内及底髹润泽黑漆，余部以剔红入饰，盖面回字锦纹为地，其上压雕缥缈的祥云，亦宛如流水富有动感，上方一只凤鸟双翅尽展，向下俯冲，周身羽翼层次刻画细腻，尾翎舒卷细长。画面下方桐枝自左侧横斜而出，遒劲有力，叶片自然垂坠，富写实感。
整器画面内容简约，开合有度，雕工精致可谓极巧，尤画面凤鸟纹主题鲜明，主次关系表达明晰，其通体包浆郁实，能流传至今仍全器而存，更为难得。
