北宋大观年间，宋徽宗鉴于《淳化阁帖》帖版破裂，遂命蔡京等重新更订摹勒上石，置于太清楼下，故又名“大观太清楼帖”。刻成不久即遭靖康之变，金人占领开封，帖版亦失陷，南北互不往来，后原刻石失佚。《大观帖》在摹刻上比《淳化阁帖》更加精细准确，笔画沉着丰腴，被认为是宋代刻帖中的精品。
