是书为中国绘画史上影响最为深广的绘画技法图谱式教材。此为第二集，内收梅兰竹菊四谱，多色套印，浓淡深浅阴阳向背，丝毫不失原稿色泽神态，代表了清代前期雕版彩印的最高峰，在印刷史上占有重要地位。此部套色准确，色彩鲜活明丽，层次感强，能传原稿神采。梅兰竹菊每谱册首扉页右下钤“芥子园珍藏”朱记，末有康熙辛巳镌藏款，并钤“芥子园”“李氏珍藏”朱记。四谱分装四册，以《芥子园画传》清后期刻本作为衬纸。以本拍品与国家图书馆藏清康熙四十年芥子園甥馆初刻本（善本书号：13909）书影对照，板框、栏线等断缺细节一致。
