该砚采用上等端石为材，朴拙厚重。器呈长方形，砚面浅开砚堂。质地坚润，色泽紫黑，柔光内蕴。砚额处雕琢云龙纹，祥龙翻腾隐现于云层间，依石料之凹凸勾成数朵如意流云，颇具意趣。其外配红木嵌银丝砚盒，用材考究。此砚纹饰简练，做工精细，运刀如笔，云龙纹雕刻随形而设，飘逸灵动，浑然古拙，实为文房实用之美品。
