端砚大西洞属水岩，也称老坑、水坑、皇岩，是端石中最珍稀名贵的品种。此砚长方形，色呈紫，石质极为细腻光滑，抚之冰清若玉，娇嫩如肌，鱼脑冻、火捺、青花一应而全，极为可贵。制作精良，线条笔挺，切割规整。整器刻侯冬生纪年供养佛像之事，古拙庄严，朴素大方，做工简洁，有浑然天成之感。
