In the 1920s, Huang visited Mei Lanfang's Zhuiyu Pavilion study in his old residence in Beijing's Dongcheng district. At that time, people familiar with Mei Lanfang referred to him as the master of Zhuiyu Pavilion. Later, at the request of Luo Yigong, Huang Binhong created a special painting titled "Zhuiyu Pavilion" for Mei Lanfang.
