宣德青花图案以线条流畅、纹饰豪放生动著称。夔龙纹样用于青花瓷始于宣德朝，至成化时已成为瓷器上的典型图案，后世亦多延用。宣德时所用青料据明万历时王世懋《窥天外乘》和黄一正《事物绀珠》中所记为“苏麻离青”，这种青料含铁量高，含锰量低，在适度的窑炉气氛下烧成后能呈现宝石蓝般鲜艳的色泽，但由于含铁量高，在青花色彩上常自然形成不均匀的黑色结晶斑点，与艳丽的蓝色相互映衬，更增其艺术魅力。此罐之青花色泽即具有这一时代特征
