此观音身穿天衣，胸饰璎珞。左腿盘坐，右腿斜倚，双手抱一童子，坐在镂空山形座上，其左侧置放经卷。母亲的世俗亲情与神祇的超然气韵在这里被工匠巧妙地融合在一起。 中国封建社会是以家族宗法制为基础的，人们对血脉传承极为重视，也就有了“不孝有三，无后为大”的说法。观音具有大慈大悲心肠，对信众有求必应，人们也将民间送子娘娘的司职与观音联系在了一起。特别是明清时期，送子娘娘的形象多被观音取而代之。
