此骑象尊者，头向左倾，浓眉毛，双睛微合，颧骨突出，唇及两鬓长满胡须。袒胸，露出嶙峋瘦骨，双手相交于左膝上，左腿抬起，右腿下垂，足穿芒鞋，骑坐在大象身上。大象回首，四腿直立，四足下为盘曲缠绕之竹根。该像设计巧妙，制作精细，颇能反映出清代竹雕的艺术特征与审美取向。 盛唐以后，禅宗逐渐在皇家、僧侣、士大夫、普通信众中传播。受禅宗人人皆可修行成佛主张的影响，尊者（也称罗汉、应真等）像大量出现。这些尊者或者以五百，或者以十八、十六组合出现，从五代至明朝蔚为大观。清朝沿袭传统，继续发扬光大。乾隆皇帝曾仿照杭州净慈寺罗汉堂形制，在北京西山碧云寺与清漪园大报恩延寿寺等处建罗汉堂，内塑五百罗汉。紫禁城与皇家苑囿内供奉的各种质地的十八、十六或者单尊尊者多有留存。文人士大夫也将此置之案头，以为供奉、欣赏之对象。
