SELTENE UND GROßE DARSTELLUNG DES GANESHA. Java. Ca. 10./11. Jh. Bronze mit kräftig grüner, feiner Patina. Die Bronze ist eine tour de force der Handwerkskunst. Ganesha sitzt in rajalalitasana auf einem Lotosthron und steckt seinen Rüssel in eine Süßigkeitenschale. In Händen hält er seine klassischen Attribute: Der abgebrochene Stoßzahn, die Streitaxt und ein fragmentarischer Rosenkranz. Seine Krone ziert Shivas Mondsichel und ein Schädel. Die aufwendige Mandorla ist verziert mit Lotus-Blüten und -Blättern und einer Gruppen von Adoranten. Abgesehen von dem fehlenden Teil des Sockels und des Schirms ist die Figur in sehr gutem Zustand.Ganesha, der Sohn von Shiva und Parvati ist der populärste der Hindu-Götter. Er ist bekannt als Beseitiger von Hindernissen. Besonders vor dem Beginn einer langen Reise, der Gründung eines Geschäfts oder vor einem Examen werden ihm Opfer gebracht. Wenig überraschend wird er nicht nur in Indien, sondern auch in weiter entfernten Handelsposten in Südostasien verehrt. Meist in kleinerem Format sind einige Bronzefiguren aus Java bekannt und spektakuläre Steinfiguren, die an wichtigen Positionen in frühen javanischen Tempeln platziert wurden. Höhe 35cm. Zustand A/B. This rare and comparatively large bronze Ganesha image is a tour-de-force of workmanship. Ganesha sits in the posture of Royal Ease (rajalalitasana) on a lotus throne, his trunk mischievously dipped into the bowl with sweets. His hands hold his classic attributes: the broken tusk, the battle axe, and a (fragmentary) rosary. His crown is decorated with Shiva's crescent and a skull. The elaborate halo is decorated with lotus flowers and leaves, and a group of worshipping figures. Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, is the most popular Hindu deity. Known to be the remover of obstacles, offerings are made to him prior to the beginning of any venture, be it an exam, a long journey or the beginning of a new business. Not surprisingly, Ganesha was not only venerated in India itself, but also in the distant trading outposts in Southeast Asia. Mostly of small size, a number of Ganesha bronze images are known from Java, and some rather spectacular stone sculptures commanded prime positions in early Javanese temples. Height 35cm.
