A FINE ANONYMOUS EMAKIMONO OF THE FAMOUS VIEWS OF JAPAN, Japan, late Edo period - Handscroll, ink and colours on paper, the individual sceneries with vertical name inscriptions set against a golden background. The topic of famous views around the country was very common in Japan and gives an impression of the places the elite culture would esteem to be important and worth visiting. KYUHO NODA (Japan, 1879-1971), an album page of white clouds in a valley, ink on paper, signed Kyuho and seal - Kyuho Noda, given name Dosan, was born in Tokyo in 1879. He studied Japanese style painting with Kogyo Terazaki (1866-1919) and Western style painting at Hakubakai (The White Horse Society). He attended the Tokyo School of Fine Arts for a year around 1896 where he developed the sketching ability that allowed him to earn his living as an illustrator for the Osaka newspaper Asahi shinbun.
