官砚常于研朱墨，故少用砚石，改用其他材质制作。此方为铜质官砚，形四方，具盖，雕人物故事图，砚身藏于盖下，满布朱迹，作半月形砚池，砚堂微斜。砚台前方有置一小抽屉，带有铜着手，方便置放朱墨。盖上铭“寅生刻”三字。
