白端砚，呈椭圆形，砚池深凹，似半月，砚腹平坦，质地缜密，如脂似糕，滑而不细润。额上雕以螺纹，背后浅凿洼池，浮雕麒麟纹，麒麟是祥瑞的征兆，故太平盛世多用此纹饰。此麒麟雕刻细微，身上麟纹纤毫毕现，俊猛非凡。砚台左侧刻有“光绪四年夏五月，伯与仁兄大人厗为，黄士陵于关车江艽舍”。端砚中多见紫端、绿端，白端砚甚为少见，属于稀珍；而此方白端质地上乘，呵气成晕，是白端中之佼佼者，弥足珍贵。原配紫檀盒，光素无纹，底作四小云足，盒面上牛毛纹如密如细雨，甚是美观。
