|这件白玉佛像所用玉料较厚，有裂痕和黄褐色的沁色，下承莲座，背为荷叶形背光，主尊高髻大耳，方脸垂目，身着袈裟，结半跏趺坐，一手捧钵盂于胸前，一手抚膝，神态安详，似在沉思。|佛教信仰传入中国始于西汉中期，信众日多，至南北朝时期中原开始大量制作佛像，其中主要是石制品和铜佛像，由于玉质雕琢困难，同时玉料昂贵，故玉佛是极为少见的一个品类，最早见于记载的玉佛像是由狮子国，即今斯里兰卡进献给东晋政府的，后被收藏于瓦官寺，此为汉地收藏玉佛的开端。
