The offered lot compares to a larger but almost identical portrait attributed to Thegerstrom purported to be of Strindberg as offered at Sotheby’s London sale of March 17, 1993 as lot #0093. The offered lot also compares favorably to a portrait of Strindberg by artist Sophie Holten (1858-1930) executed in 1885 and now in Sweden’s National Museum collection.
