I do wish very much that I could reply affirmatively to your invitation to speak at your lecture series before the Smith College Group. I really do not consider myself a speaker. Writing comes more naturally to me and takes all of my time. For many years I have discontinued luncheon, dinner and speaking engagements altogether. Last winter I made a rare exception and spoke—or read a speech—at Smith College on the subject of environment. It took me months to prepare and a considerable time to recover from! I realized again that my medium is writing and not speaking, and that to make the most of my time I should concentrate on that field." In fine condition. Lindbergh graduated from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1928. She later earned honorary master's and doctor of letters degrees from her alma mater in 1935 and 1970.
