"Hewson established the fact that fibrinogen is responsible for the clotting of blood; he first described the lymphocyte" (Garrison-Morton 863). "He gave the first valid account of coagulation, was the first to observe the lymphocytes in the thymus and spleen and concluded that their production was the function of these glands, and was also the first to describe clearly the three parts of the blood" (DSB 6, p 367). Hewson, in this volume, "gave the first accurate account of blood coagulation" (Norman 1069, the 2nd edition). Russell 406.
