Chinese Yuan Dynasty (ca. 1279â1368 AD) blue and white floral porcelain Jar. Sturdily potted in a baluster jar, has a tall feminine silhouette with broad shoulders and a body that either tapers to the foot or pinches at the waist then elegantly fans near its foot, with two reverse flower blooms flank the neck handles. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze cobalt blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in cobalt underglazed blue with famous Yuan pattern "three friends floral in the winter" Pine, Plum and Cherry blossoms within interlocking vines and foliate cartouche, interspersed by further tendril foliate. The geometrical pattern and floral motifs banded to the neck, shoulder, and foot. Banded with flower blooms and blur glazed ring on the neck, ruyi cloud ribbon on the upper neck, auspicious motif around the shoulder and the foot. Borders of thin lines incised near the top, collar, shoulder, and foot rims and a clear blue color on a very white paste are characteristic features. The foot rim revealed the cut edges during the process, and the base left unglazed with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks. The shape is uniformly proportioned.
