RARE, 16th C Chinese Ming Dynasty Emperor Zhengde reign period porcelain teapot. Shape in form of a deep vessel, bulbous to the center body, large trumpet-shaped spout opening with elongated gallery mouth frontward, continuous gracefully formed a flori-form lobed flaring rim. Balanced with loop handle and a thumb piece. The dome lid crowned with simply bud finial. The exterior decorated with copper-red and pale Bajixiang, repeating scrolling ruyi clouds, geometrical archaic leiwen, Lotus flower blooms, interlocking vines, upturning lappets, rococo floral foliage, and auspicious motifs, all against the clean white underglaze ground. The central belly banded with red under-glazed Manchurian inscriptions. Ruyi a wish for success without any obstacles, according to wishes, signifies good wishes for future prosperity, It is often used as a decorative motif in embroidery and hardwood lattices good fortune It may have come from the Buddhist tradition and came to symbolize wealth and power. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant finish that was applied by a meticulous glaze, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
