剑是古代贵族和战士随身佩带。在古代，人们佩剑还有表示等级身份之意。此剑在苏丹国亦作为仪式用器，以它自身的重量，可以发挥突剌之效，必要时还可以左右横击。但因过重，能够驾驭自如的武将别不多，必须有超人的臂力才能挥洒自如。此剑铁制，横跨剑脊在两侧枪翼采用错金银工艺装饰火焰纹，内火心错银、外火焰错金，使其更为华丽。此枪刃较厚，且枪锋因造型华美且保存完好，由此可判断此件应当为仪式用器。整器造型修长，简练，装饰风格独到，且工匠技艺颇佳。纽约大都会博物馆亦有同类产品可资参照。
