宗喀巴大师（1357-1419）为藏传佛教格鲁派的创始人，他自幼聪慧非凡，在学问修持等方面都具有极高成就，被藏族僧俗尊称为“第二佛陀”。此幅唐卡中，大师头戴黄色桃形尖帽，容貌庄严，表情寂静。上身内着僧坎，外穿袒右肩式袈裟。双手于胸前结说法印，两肩上饰有宝剑和经书。下身着宽松僧裙，跏趺坐于莲花座上，下承双狮台座。台座两侧，大师两位弟子：贾曹杰和克珠杰安坐于法座之上。画面上方绘制兜率天净土和药师佛，画面下方表现了须弥山全貌，以及金刚手菩萨和外修阎魔敌。整幅唐卡以青绿山水为背景，展现出浓郁的自然意趣，设色鲜艳亮丽，人物稚拙粗犷，带有地方绘画热烈奔放的艺术特点，是青海或蒙古地区唐卡绘画的佳作。
