文物商店旧藏清代书法以帖学书法为主，因此刘墉的书法也取法于帖学，通过对各种书体的创作，加以融合，开辟了新一代书风。他的书法墨浓字肥，浑厚端庄，雄厚劲遒，看似平淡无奇却貌丰骨劲、炉火纯青，在清朝嘉庆乾隆时期影响深远。此幅刘墉手卷用笔刚劲，粗细相互交杂，巧拙相生，十分精妙，体现了他书法丰腴圆厚、貌丰骨劲、刚劲内敛的书法风格。
