Note: This lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Jane Kallir.'Portrait eines jungen Madchens' was created the first year Schiele studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts (1907-09). During these formative years the artist was influenced by the Jugendstil, the German Art Nouveau movement. It was around this period, the artist met Gustav Klimt (1862-1918), whom soon became the artist’s mentor. Klimt exchanged his own pieces with the artist and also arranged models and potential patrons for Schiele. A very similar comparison to this piece 'Portrait of a Girl', 1907, which is held at the Albertina Museum in Vienna.
