Early 19th century beautiful hand painted footed metal coal hod from France. Unique oval shape with dome lid and attractive handle. Large metal loop handles either side with medallion backdrops. . Stands on decorative feet in black as well.Wide gilt band surrounds the hod top and bottom, accented with a thin red line. The eight sided lid is decorated with painted gilt ornate designs and garlands on all sides with additional painting above and below the two ovals with painted scenes. One depicts the front portion of a chateau with children playing outside, a woman doing needlework and another woman with toddler. The opposite side shows a single cut rose and bud with greenery.Very sturdy, shows minor wear to the black background coating as seen.
