Pair of plaster Italian style sconces made and signed by Universal Statuary in Chicago. The company was started in late 30's, early 40's by the Lucchesi family making plaster/chalk ware decorative items. The date shown on the top back along with Universal Statuary Chicago 1962-803 is the date of copyright and not production. The family sold the company in the 80's and has not been in business for many years. Their items quickly becoming coveted by collectors alike. The pair have a garland motif in antique cream with acanthus leaf trim and floral in gilt. The sconces have good weight with the plaster and heavy wire interior forms. Sturdy loop hangers on either side of each back for hanging. One in excellent condition, the other a slight chip in the back creating a hairline rack through the floral on front for a 1/2 inch distance, yet totally stable an not a threat to the sconce. Each uniquely designed to hold 3 candles and hung at a slant. Beautiful either side of a mirror. Very decorative without any candles as well appearing more as architectural pieces.Measure 18.5 H X 8 W X 2.75 D each.Item ID: LPT38174
