A large lead brooch decorated to the upper surface with a concentric series of pellets within ridged borders; to the inner zone an expanding cross with bar-and-pellet decoration between the arms; catchplate and ring to the reverse. From an old English collection; found UK. The brooch is probably a nummular type, derived from the expanding-arm cross coinage issued by Edward the Confessor (fl.1042-66").
