A large,extraordinary Chinese, bronze of a meditative ZhenWu / Xuanwu Tati figure in elaborate armor with guardian lion embellishments and a floating sash, seated on a bench, with his hands at the thighs and bare feet at either side of a small dragon turtle. Xuanwu ,also known as Zhenwu is a deity in Chinese religion, one of the higher ranking deities in Taoism, he is revered as a powerful god ,able to control the elements and capable of great magic. he is identified as the god of the north Heidi( black emperor) and is particularly revered by martial artists. H: 23.03in.(58.5cm) W: 12 7/8" (32.7cm) Provenance: estate of an important Atlanta private collector, acquired in 1997. Reference: similar cast bronze figure of Zhenwu (78.7 cm) sold in Sotheby`s Newyork on 13 Sep 2016 for 100,000 USD a similar bronze figure of Zhenwu (smaller size 44cm) sold in Christie`s London on 14 May 2019 for 18,750 GBP Condition: In good condition with small breaks in the bronze surrounding the figure's right foot.
