Ptolemaic Period, 332-30 BC. A large glazed composition figure of the god Bes, squatting on a lotus-headed column, bearded, grimacing and wearing a tall crown with five black-tipped feathers; surrounded by several monkeys climbing over him; pierced laterally above the ears, above the feathers and below column to mount on a standard; supplied with a custom-made stand. See Bulte, J. Talismans égyptiens d'heureuse maternité, Paris, 1991; and Une amulette est conservée au musée de Philadelphie (Inv. E14358"). 231 grams, 18cm including stand (7").
