Middle-Syrian, mid 15th-mid 14th century BC. A haematite cylinder seal with worshipping scene, from left to right: two antithetical hawks, a rosette in between, appearing in the upper half, separated by a short horizontal line, below a lion with raised tail striding to the right; following scene filling the entire seal picture, showing the naked goddess Ishtar, looking directly at the observer, with a high conical hat, long hair and hands folded at waist height, beside her two beardless adorants, also with high conical caps and long robes with horizontal ridges, each holding a short sickle sword in the left hand, both facing the enthroned goddess with same cap and robe; between her raised right hand and the face, another falcon, but in frontal view with head turned to the right; the goddess's throne and feet on a double pedestal with lattice pattern symbolising a mountain landscape; both adorants are due to their armament and the same garb as the goddess surely also gods; the entire seal image is framed on the left and right by two vertical lines. 16.5 grams, 28mm (1").
