Northern Wei Dynasty, 386-534 AD. A finely modelled terracotta figurine of a standing horse with a fierce expression, in an elaborate harness, the muscular neck with bells and pendants, rope with tassels around the upper neck, tall headdress in red pigment; long saddle-cloth with flowers and other detailing, saddle blanket and stirrups; standing on a rectangular base, hollow to the underside. 8.1 kg, 50cm (19 1/2"). Property of a North West London gallery; formerly in a 1980s collection; accompanied by an original thermoluminescence test certificates issued by Laboratory Kotalla of Germany, report number 39PX020519.
