9th-11th century AD. A large iron spearhead with leaf-shaped lentoid-section blade, long shoulders, flared socket with hole to accept attachment rivet; lateral triangular wings. Cf. Arbman, H. Birka I: Die Gräber, Uppsala, 1940, table 7(2) for type. 548 grams, 35.5cm (14"). From the family collection of a South East London collector; formerly acquired in the 1960s.
