6th century AD. A substantial bronze pyramid mount with parcel gilt guilloche bands to each flat face, inset garnet to the upper face and to the centre of each side, hollow with strap-slider beneath. See Menghin, W. Das Schwert im Frühen Mittelalter, Stuttgart, 1983 for discussion. 11 grams, 16mm (1/2"). Property of a West Yorkshire collector; previously in a Suffolk collection; found near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, UK.
