A large moulded and incised bronze mount from the bottom of a large processional cross; in the form of a winged quadruped, probably a Lion of St. Mark, with slender griffin-like wings, gripping a book; the front foreleg extended with a wing at the shoulder; the large face with stylised facial features; the bushy tail passing between the legs and wrapped around the rear right leg; the second wing visible to the right of the creature's head; book pierced for attachment, one rivet in situ. 175 grams, 77 mm (3"). Recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme, ref. SWYOR-596E04; Lewis, J M Bronze Aquamaniles and Ewers Finds Research Group 700-1700, Datasheet 7. 175 grams, 72mm (3").
