Lot of 3 relics, including small lock of Abraham Lincoln's hair, approx. 6 strands, 3.25 in. ln., and a piece of cloth that covered Lincoln's catafalque, .5 x 2.5 in. Accompanied by a typed letter of certification signed by handwriting expert, Charles Hamilton, with copy of document of original authentication of the Lincoln relics provided by Mrs. W. Slade, wife of Lincoln's confidential messenger and close friend of Mrs. Lincoln, to L.E. Leigh. Hamilton states that he personally removed the hair and cloth from the envelope containing the relics and Mrs. Slade's authentication. Also included is a reproduction of Jeremiah Gurney, Jr.'s photograph of Lincoln in his casket. Matted and framed together, 15.5 x 29 in. Silk flag remnant, approx. 2 x 6 in., from a 36-star flag that adorned the interior of one of the funeral railroad cars used in Lincoln's funeral train during its stop at Indianapolis, IN on April 30, 1865. Framed together with a copy photograph of Lincoln's funeral train, 13 x 16 in. overall. With photocopied letter dated January 1993 stating that the flag previously belonged to the G. James McQuillen family of Indianapolis, IN, and was either made by a McQuillen family ancestor for the funeral train or ordered for the occasion.Â
