Lot of 6 silver gelatin photographs, 3.125 x 5.5 in., on 4.875 x 6.875 in. mounts, most with penciled inscriptions on verso. Photographer unknown, ca early 20th century. The lot features a photograph of an aged Cheyenne Chief Two Moons at camp. Two Moons (1847-1917) had a great reputation as a warrior and leader, and is best known for his participation in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Towards the end of the Indian Wars when most of the violence had been quelled, Two Moons took a political role for his tribe. He worked as a scout for the US Army and also served as chief of the Northern Cheyenne reservation. Additional scenes include a "Sweat Tepee," showing an aged Cheyenne Indian with a young child standing with a bow and arrow; 2 views showing the curing and drying of meat near tepees; a "Sweat Dance"; and "Cheyenne Graves."Â
