Wood box containing 24 glass slides, 3.25 x 4 in., many with inscribed or printed paper labels. Bottom floor of box interior is penciled "Barry 82," suggesting that the glass slides previously belonged to D.F. Barry, although this cannot be confirmed. Consignor relates that the box and glass slides came out of Bismarck, ND, and were acquired with a number of Barry photographs and personal correspondence.The majority of the glass slides are identified on an inscribed paper label, and subjects include: George A. Custer; Geronimo; Sioux burial ground; D.F. Barry and Rain in the Face; Sitting Bull at Sioux Council; Crow Foot; Sioux women taking down tepee; Sioux women scraping buffalo hides; Kaw brave; Crow woman; Indian sweat hut; Crow woman with papoose; Ute papoose; Indian Frank, Crow; Pawnee boy; Indian girl and boy; and damaged portrait of U.S. Grant. Accompanied by 3 glass slides with original, printed Haynes Studio, St. Paul, Minnesota labels and typed captions. Subjects include Chief Joseph, James Bridger, and large buffalo; 2 slides showing American Indian subjects with printed labels from the National Photo & Lantern Slide Color Co., NY; and 2 unmarked slides showing a train and woman with papoose.Â
