Doucai porcelain of Chenghua period of Ming dynasty is very famous imperial vessel and named as the marker of "heaven" on the bottom. Many immiated Doucai vessel from Kangxi and Yongzheng period of Qing dynasty. This lidded jar is thin body, straight mouth, short neck, sloping shoulder. Marker of "heaven" on bottom. glaze everywhere and smooth, slip. clear color. two lines of variant lotus pattern and dyed with red color. melon and leaf as body ground and two blue dragons between them. There is a label on bottom, recorded as "West Honganji Temple at fifth year of Taisho, Yoshiro Yamanaka, Yamato Funabuchi". Another label on inside of lidder with "Yamagata". Yamato Funabuchi and Yamagata are the alternative name of Buddhist scholar Monk Maeda (1857-1930). Yoshiro Yamanaka (1845-1917) was founder of Yamanaka & Co., Ltd, the foster father of famous Tanaka Yamanaka (1866-). From Ms. Latty's record that she used three Chinese Ancient Bronze vessels and five imperial porcelain to exchange this in 1956. She believed that this Doucai jar was her most valuable one. Therefore, this jar was first collected in Yamanaka & Co. Ltd, then transfered to Monk Maeda in Honganji Temple in 1916, finally was collected by Ms. Latty in 1956. Collection serial number CL388.
