A rare & elaborate Chinese box with carrier. The box, of rectangular brass with black lacquer panels. Its side panels inset with mother of pearl birds & branches, the top with raised red lacquer carvings of 'lucky'bats, the interior polished brass. The carrier, a rectangular brass base with squared handle between scalloped open scroll supports, these painted in enamel with leiwen lines, mythical beasts, & floral scroll against a yellow ground. W: 12 1/4" (31.1cm) Condition: in good condition with some peeling, flaking, & cracking of the lacquer, tarnish & wear evident in most areas, one panel area broken with a missing piece
