Legal papers, invitations, to Baron Normand, largely relating to his legal positions as Lord President of the Court of Session and Lord Justice General, including 2 letters signed by J. Ramsay MacDonald (1932 & 1933), one signed by N. Chamberlain (1936), invitation to, and Order of Service for, the Funeral of King George the Sixth (1952), two commands appointing Normand as Lord Justice General and President of the Court of Session (1 April 1935) signed by King George V; 4 Commissions appointing him as Solicitor General for Scotland or His Majesty’s Advocate for Scotland, with red wax Seal of King George V attached, & other material Footnote: Note: Normand served briefly as Solicitor General for Scotland in 1929 and from 1931 to 1933, when he was appointed Lord Advocate. He was appointed a Privy Counsellor in 1933. In April 1935, Normand was appointed to the bench as Lord President and Lord Justice General, appointed a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary in 1947 and received as a Law lord a life peerage as Baron Normand, of Aberdour in the county of Fife, retiring in 1953. He was a Trustee of the National Library of Scotland from 1925 to 1946 and again from 1953, and a Trustee of the British Museum from 1950.
