An oil-on-canvas titled "Spring Morning" by Hugh Bolton Jones, a prominent landscape artist from Baltimore, Maryland. His first paintings were influenced by the Hudson River School. In the 1860's and 70's, he painted numerous landscapes of the eastern U.S., from Maryland to West Virginia and the meadows of New Jersey to the Berkshires of Massachusetts. In the 1870's, he joined an art colony in Pont-Aven, France, and experimented with plein-air (out-of-doors) paintings in Brittany. This reflected the Barbizon School of art. After four years abroad, he returned to America, where he painted landscapes which emphasized the seasonal effects of light at various times of day. He received awards at the Paris Exposition and the St. Louis Exposition in the early 1900's, and his works can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Gallery in D.C. The painting is signed in the lower right and has a paper label on back with the title of the painting, and comes with a beautiful gilt frame. The overall size is 16 x 20 in. wide and the sight size is 9 1/2 x 13 1/2 in. wide.
